Travis Sharpe Solid in Season Debut

Concord, NC 3/28/07- It was a beautiful season opening weekend for the 2007 NASACAR Whelen All-American Series in Concord, NC. Travis Sharpe returned to Concord Motorsports Park for the season opener where in 2005 he produced a track championship for the Travis Sharpe Racing team.

Sharpe had the look of a veteran from the time he rolled out of the trailer putting up consistently fast laps throughout the day during practice. “We were pretty quick from the time we unloaded; this is a brand new car from top to bottom so we knew there were going to be some questions on how it was going to perform and by the end of the night I think we got most of those questions answered,” stated Sharpe.

Sharpe would start from the eighth position for the 75-lap late model feature after a solid qualifying run. “We did what we needed to do and that was to get a solid lap under our belt and then just wait and see what we had for the race, “added Sharpe. Soon after the green flag was dropped, Sharpe jumped up to the fifth position. As laps ticked off the Travis Sharpe Chevy Monte Carlo became looser on the long runs. “Our Chevy Monte Carlo was decent on the short runs but every time we went on a long run the car just seemed to get looser and looser,” said Sharpe. Sharpe would have to settle for the seventh position as he took the checkered flag for the first race of the season.

It is never too early to talk about points chasing, Sharpe knew it was a solid points day and that’s just what you need to win championships. “I just want to thank all my guys and FNO Racecars who have been working so hard to get this new car put together. I know this is just the start of the season but we are looking for another championship and we need good finishes like these to make it happen,” added Sharpe. Travis Sharpe and his Travis Sharpe Motorsports team will be back in action April 7th at Concord Motorsports Park for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
